Remember Kean Bryan, Rangers fans? You should. Because the Manchester City youngster was heavily linked with a move to Ibrox last summer, the Scottish Sun claiming he had agreed to join Steven Gerrard’s side on a three-year deal worth £2.5 million in wages.
In a shock twist, however, Bryan’s move to Ibrox fell through. The Scottish Sun claimed this was due to problems flagged up in a medical with the Gers backing out of a deal.
Seven months on, it seems the Glasgow giants made the right call.
The 21-year-old defender joined Sheffield United just days after his move to Scotland collapsed, but he has done little at Bramall Lane to suggest their gain is Rangers’ loss.
Sheffield United are second in the Championship table after 33 games, but Bryan has featured in precisely none of those. The England U20 international has only made the match-day squad twice in a forgettable debut season in the Steel City. In fact, his only appearance so far came in the home defeat to League Two Barnet in the FA Cup third round.
“I’ve had a lot of little niggling injuries and a bout of illness too, but now I want to look forward rather than back,” Bryan told the Star in December, explaining why he has been unable to make an impact.
The chance of him forcing his way into the team between now and the end of the season looks slim. After all, why would Blades boss Chris Wilder change a winning formula?
