The verdict is in on Captain Marvel, firmly establishing our expectations.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has cast its spell for over a decade now, impressing audiences with 2008’s Iron Man and beyond. The film signalled a change; with the release of last year’s Avengers: Infinity War, the studio celebrated their achievement by showcasing a grand ensemble of characters in one monumental blockbuster. The third Avengers film is arguably their most incredible release to date, yet, that only means that the bar must be raised once again. We have Avengers: Endgame set to blow us away in April, but first, we have the exciting Captain Marvel to look forward to.

Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck‘s Captain Marvel is the first female-led superhero film of the MCU’s oeuvre. It stars the phenomenal Brie Larson (Room, Short Term 12) as Carol Danvers, the titular Captain Marvel. When the Earth is threatened as a result of two alien races waged in war, Danvers is perhaps the only one who can save it, discovering her true potential and unleashing her extraordinary powers. It feels like Marvel fans have been waiting an eternity for this film, so expectations were always going to be high. However, now that the verdict is in, we can begin to shape our anticipation accordingly. Here are some reactions to the film:

It looks like Captain Marvel is going to be yet another MCU success story and possibly even one of their most important efforts to date. It’s certainly imperative viewing for anyone totally invested in the outcome of Avengers: Endgame, as it seems Carol Danvers is our shining ray of hope. From these reactions, we can expect to experience something different from this outing. It’s great that they have decided to embrace the science-fiction elements to bring us a film which aims to immerse us in new worlds. The Brie Larson praise was inevitable – she’s yet to disappoint. After Captain Marvel, we expect to see her in much more.
