Aston Villa sold goalkeeper Gollini back to Serie A with Atalanta coming to his rescue after just 20 Championship appearances.
From Clint ‘Deuce’ Dempsey to that infamous John Barnes rap, Royston Drenthe’s expletive-ridden lyrics to Dion Dublin’s ‘Dube’, plenty of footballers have dabbled in music over the years with rather mixed success.
And it seems that Pierluigi Gollini is the latest to try his hand in the recording studio rather than the training pitch. He’s certainly had plenty of time on his hands, given that the goalkeeper has spent much of the season stuck on the bench at Atalanta.
Aston Villa fans will remember Gollini well on the back of his disappointing spell in the Midlands during the first half of the 2016/17 season.
Vila paid £4.25 million to sign the highly-rated shot-stopper from Hellas Verona three years ago (The Mail). But Gollini failed to live up to suggestions that he could be the new Gianluigi Buffon, struggling to impress in 20 Championship appearances before quickly returning to Italy with Atalanta.
Considering that Gollini has made just 21 Serie A appearances in the last two years, Villa might have made the right call in cutting their ties as early as possible. Especially when you consider that the 21-year-old has made more headlines with his musical ‘talent’ this season than his achievements on the football pitch.
You can listen to Gollini’s efforts here. Maybe he should stick to working on his reflexes instead.
