The Schalke ace could be a useful addition for Tottenham Hotspur.

During an interview with the Independent, Schalke ace Nabil Bentaleb admitted that he would be keen to return to Tottenham to work under Mauricio Pochettino again, but could the north London outfit do the unthinkable and re-sign the Algeria international?

The 24-year-old has been in fine from for Schalke since swapping the Premier League for the Bundesliga in the summer of 2016, chalking up 17 goals and nine assists in 91 appearances in all competitions – impressive numbers for a deep-lying midfielder.

Tottenham will surely be on the look-out for a new central midfielder in the summer, having lost Mousa Dembele to China last month, and their former player could be just the ticket.

Schalke paid around £17 million for Bentaleb, according to the Daily Mail, so Spurs would surely have to pay a lot more than that in order to bring him back to north London.

The 35-capped Algeria international is a wonderfully composed and cultured midfielder, and despite his initial struggles under Pochettino’s regime at Tottenham, he would now be ideally suited to the Argentine’s setup.

He is versatile too, and can operate anywhere from defensive midfield to the more advanced number 10 role.

There will be Tottenham fans who do not want to see Bentaleb back at the club, as he was an extremely divisive character amongst fans during his spell at White Hart Lane.

Whether Pochettino views the Schalke man as a potential signing, however, remains to be seen.
