Premier League duo Southampton and Watford scouted France defender Kwateng in Nantes’ Ligue 1 defeat to Monaco on Sunday.
Reported Southampton and Watford target Enock Kwateng could be available for a bargain £4.5 million according to The Mirror (20 February, page 57).
Goal France reported on Tuesday that the Premier League duo had sent scouts to watch the 21-year-old in action for Nantes last weekend, Kwateng starting in the 1-0 defeat to a resurgent Monaco side at the Stade Louis II.
A right-back who won the U19 European Championships with France in 2019 alongside Jean-Kevin Augustin, Issa Diop and a certain Kylian Mbappe, Kwateng has belatedly established himself as Nantes’ first choice this season.
But how much would he cost? According to The Mirror, just £4.5 million – which is a drop in the ocean in today’s transfer market.
It is no secret that Southampton need a new right-back, having sent Cedric Soares to Inter Milan on loan with an option to buy in January. Youngster Yan Valery has been starting regularly under the Austrian coach Ralph Hasenhuttl.
Watford, meanwhile, are hardly lacking options on the right of their defence with Javi Gracia able to pick between Kike Femenia and Daryl Janmaat.
