One year ago Mousa Dembele was starring in the Champions League for Tottenham Hotspur against Juventus.

It prompted manager Mauricio Pochettino to compare his talent to Diego Maradona and Ronaldinho, the Evening Standard reported.

So it seems a bit of a waste that the Belgian is now playing in China while his teammates compete for two major trophies.


Nevertheless this is the path Dembele chose, and Tottenham sanctioned.

Dembele is now going about his way to get his career with Guangzhou R&F off to a strong start.

The midfielder posted a picture on his Instagram page of his first match for the Chinese side.

If this looks a bit low key, it was supposed to be.

Guangzhou are on a pre-season tour of Australia at present as they prepare for the Chinese Super League to kick off on March 2.

Even so, it looks more than a little odd to see Dembele lining up for another side, which he is surely too good for.
