Watford and Southampton are both interested in signing Enock Kwateng after scouting the defender on Saturday, according to Goal France.

A 21-year-old right-back who won the European U19 Championships back in 2016 alongside Jean-Kevin Augustin, Issa Diop and Kylian Mbappe, Kwateng has finally forced his way into the Nantes starting XI this season.

He made his 19th Ligue 1 appearance in the 1-0 defeat at struggling Monaco at the weekend, with scouts from Watford and Southampton understood to be present.

It is no secret that Southampton want to bring a new right-back to St Mary’s after loaning Cedric Soares out to Inter Milan in the January transfer window. According to the BBC, Inter have an option to sign the Portugal international for £9.5 million.

Watford, however, are not short on right-sided defenders, with Javi Gracia able to call upon Kike Femenia and Daryl Janmaat.

Goal France reports that Kwateng’s contract at Nantes expires at the end of this season and he is unlikely to extend his stay with the Canaries, although discussions are understood to have started in recent times.
