Bayern take on Liverpool this week

Two of the world’s best goalkeepers will be on show this week when Bayern Munich take on Liverpool.

Manuel Neuer has returned from a hand injury and is fit to take on the Reds in the Champions League.

He has praised Liverpool number one Alisson, who the Reds paid £66.9 million to sign from Roma in the summer.

Neuer told ESPN: “I like his style. I’ve seen him at Rome, and I’ve seen him in the Brazil team, he’s doing a great job.”

Neuer had different emotions when asked to discuss compatriot, Loris Karius.

Karius made high profile errors in the Champions League final which cost the Reds, and ultimately led to Alisson being signed.

Neuer said he had a lot of sympathy for the Liverpool ace, who is out on loan at Turkish side Besiktas.

He said: “I was with the national team, and we all watched the game together. We hoped that he would do well — he’s a German keeper. I really felt for him. It was a sad day for goalkeepers.”

Karius struggled in early pre-season and it became clear there was a hangover from the final in Ukraine.

Liverpool are a stronger team with Alisson in goal and have the best defensive record in the Premier League.

With Alisson and Neuer in goal this week, Liverpool’s match with Bayern is unlikely to be a high scoring affair.
