One of the worst kept secrets in football is finally public knowledge.

One month after triggering a clause in his contract that allowed him to bring an end to his stellar spell at the heart of Hibernian’s defence, Efe Ambrose has joined Derby County on a short term deal until the end of the season.

"Efe is an experienced central defender and he gives us another option in that particular area. We're pleased to welcome him on board for the rest of the season,” Rams boss Frank Lampard told the club’s official website.

Ambrose should be a solid addition to a Derby side who have slipped out of the play-off places, offering Lampard some much needed competition for the overused Richard Keogh and Fikayo Tomori.

But what can the Pride Park faithful expect from a defender who was labelled by some as a ‘bomb scare’ during his time at Celtic? Well, while Ambrose never really won over the Celtic fans, Hibernian supporters are full of praise.

After all, the Nigerian international took Hibs from the second tier to the Europa League, strolling through games as he went.
