“As It Was” will see Liam tell his story ‘in his own words for the first time’

It looks like Liam Gallagher’s film As It Was is edging ever closer, as the former Oasis frontman gave an update to fans via Twitter.

The documentary was announced last year, with a press releasing stating that the film will tell the “emotional story of how one of the greatest rock frontmen went from the dizzying heights of his champagne supernova years in Oasis to living on the edge ostracised lost in the musical wilderness of boredom, booze and bitter legal battles”.

The film will also “see Liam emerging from Noel’s shadow, managing the expectation going from being in the biggest band in the world to starting again alone, stripped bare, with no-where to hide”.

It’s directed by Charlie Lightening, who also directed Gallagher’s ‘Chinatown’ video, and produced by Steven Lappin, who’s behind music films such as A Night With Beyonce and George Michael: Freedom

Speaking in a press release, Lightening said: “Having known Liam both personally and creatively over the past 10 years, to see him back where he should be, and to see the reaction to him once again has been amazing. For Liam to let me in, to be there to capture it all, up close and personal and to tell the whole story in his own words makes for an amazing film. One of the greatest rock’n’roll comebacks of all times and you are there with him each step of the way.”

While a release date for the film is yet to be officially announced, Gallagher did update his 3million Twitter followers. “”Just seen the film As it was and it’s mega well done to all involved as you were as it was who are ya want some d***head LG x” he wrote.

Speaking at the time of its announcement, Liam said: “As It Was is a documentary about my musical comeback. It covers the writing and recording of my first solo album, right through to playing it live for the very first time in my hometown of Manchester and around the world. I hope you enjoy the film… As You Were.”
