Jacob Murphy may have opened his account for West Brom on Wednesday night, but it appears that the Newcastle loanee has plenty to prove if he wants to win the Baggies fans over during his time at The Hawthorns.
Darren Moore's side missed the chance to move to within two points of the top two in the Championship as they drew 2-2 with Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.
Another Magpies loanee may have been the one to take many of the headlines, with Dwight Gayle winning a late penalty in controversial circumstances that allowed West Brom to equalise. But Murphy had initially levelled the game for the home side after Stefan Johansen's early own goal.
The winger managed to poke the ball home shortly after the break. Murphy may have scored, but his overall performance clearly did not impress the West Brom fans on Twitter.
The 23-year-old struggled to create chances for his teammates, and some of his crossing was disappointing on a night when the Baggies had a fantastic chance to send a message to a lot of their promotion rivals.
In fact, several supporters have asked for Moore to leave Murphy out of the starting lineup for the trip to Aston Villa at the weekend, with the likes of Jefferson Montero also available to the West Brom boss.
Here is what some of the fans made of the Newcastle loanee's display...
Jacob Murphy scored a goal my mom would have bagged. Otherwise he was carried he couldn't cross he didn't beat his man except for one occasion he was so lightweight. I want to see us give Montero a go. Tbf leko looks like he's got more about him than Murphy #WBA— Andrew Beech (@beechyboy90) February 13, 2019
Poor tonight but came away with a point...again wasn't impressed with Murphy, and still don't understand why we are playing one of if not the best striker in the league on the wing??? MOTM Harper....he is gonna be one hell of a player...#wba— Stuart Field (@Baggiesgoboing) February 12, 2019
Harper absolutely superb. Thought Tosin was great, Gayle busy. Murphy awful, Livermore and Dawson even worse. Massive next four games if we're serious about automatics #wba— Lee (@Lee_Hickmans) February 12, 2019
So, tonight #wba - not impressed with Murphy at all -we were the cause of our own downfall with our attempts to play out of tight situations- again. On the positive side Harper improves with every game & a point gained in the end. Cant stand the diving, hope gayle cuts it out!!— JCorz (@JohnCorfield7) February 12, 2019
On what I’ve seen so far of Murphy and yes it’s still early days he’s no better than Burke imo— Nick Ganderton (@nick_wba_khfc) February 12, 2019
Lucky to get a draw tonight. Home form a big concern and unlikely to get top 2 if we don’t improve. Harper‘s performance one of few positives, looks a great prospect. Murphy less so... #wba— Rob Norman (@Rob_Norms) February 12, 2019
Very underwhelmed by Murphy. Even if he did score. Not a touch on barnes. Need matty back asap #wba— Sean Lee (@SeanJohnLee) February 12, 2019
