Aston Villa are back in action tonight as they take on Brentford, which means Dean Smith taking on his former club.
Smith left Brentford in October after three years at Griffin Park, and makes his first return to the West London club this evening.
Smith will be seeing plenty of familiar faces when he heads to West London tonight, and four Brentford players have been linked with reunions at Villa Park.
All four are in contention to play; the first is defender Yoann Barbet, with The Express and Star reporting that Villa were considering a January move.
With Tyrone Mings and Kortney Hause only on loan and Barbet available for free when his contract expires this summer, the French defender may yet be a bargain signing for Villa.
Playmaker Romaine Sawyers – another Smith favourite at Walsall and Brentford – should play, just weeks after the Daily Mail suggested that Villa were delaying a £4million move for him until the summer.
The final one is striker Neal Maupay, as noted by the London Evening Standard. With 17 goals this season, Villa will need to splash the cash this summer if they want the Frenchman when Tammy Abraham's loan ends.
Villa will surely have a close eye on all four tonight, and will hope that four players Smith allegedly wants at Villa Park don't send them home empty handed this evening.
Of course, they will all be doing their best to down Villa tonight, but Smith's big hope may be that he doesn't have to face them again after tonight, instead working with them once again at Villa Park next season.
