Kenedy has plummeted down the Newcastle pecking order of late.
The 23-year-old has managed just 11 minutes of Premier League football in the last five matches, coming on as a substitute against Manchester City - and then doing the same in the defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
Joining Newcastle in January 2018 on loan until the end of the 2017-18 season initially, the Brazilian was a key part of Newcastle's survival from the drop and was crucial in pushing them to tenth in the league.
He signed for the entire campaign last summer, but he has hardly had the same impact on Tyneside and the likes of Christian Atsu and Ayoze Perez are now preferred. Benitez has admitted that he has held talks with the player.
"We had had a lot of conversations, watching videos, talking with him and people close to him to be sure he is focused. My staff have very good communications with him," Benitez said, as quoted by the Mirror.
The Newcastle squad are currently in Spain undergoing a warm weather training camp where they will even play a friendly against Russian side CSKA Moscow, with the Toon not playing until February 23 after being knocked out of the FA Cup.
It remains to be seen if Kenedy will break his way back into the side and remind Newcastle fans what he is capable of - the kind of form that saw Chelsea quote Newcastle £20million (Chronicle) for his services on a permanent basis.
Kenedy posted on Instagram after Benitez spoke about his lack of game time, his post being translated as: "Don't forget you can: start late, start again, have many doubts, tremble of fear, fail a thousand times and still succeed."
