Tottenham Hotspur ace starred in 3-0 win.
Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen became the unlikely hero against Borussia Dortmund.
Vertonghen was playing at left-wing back after injuries to Ben Davies and Danny Rose.
After a tricky first half he stole the show in the second.
He crossed for Heung Min Son to break the deadlock in the 46th minute, before volleying in to make the score 2-0.
Fernando Llorente added a third to wrap up a 3-0 win.
Co-commentator Robbie Savage told BT Sport he regarded Vertonghen as the 'best player on the pitch'.
He was echoed by former players Alan Shearer, Gary Lineker, Jermaine Jenas and Michael Bridges who raved about the Spurs defender on Twitter.
Here is a look at the array of reaction praising the Belgium international.
.@JanVertonghen several great crosses, a brilliant goal and a magnificent all round performance. @SpursOfficial impressive result again without big players. #TOTDOR @ChampionsLeague
