The newest film in the DCEU could have real potential
After a shaky start, DC are starting to find their feet in the realm of cinematic universes. Aquaman, their most recent release, blew away the rest of the DCEU with a staggering $1.2b gross at the box office.
The lesser-known hero is set to make his big-screen debut in April 2019 and a new featurette has been released to tell us more about the film and more importantly the new hero.
Like with the other trailers released for Shazam!, the new featurette brilliantly shows off the lighter tone of the film. From what we've seen so far, Shazam! looks like a hilarious crossover between Superman and Tom Hanks's Big.
The film looks set to tell the story of Billy Batson, a 14-year-old boy turned superhero. Unlike his reluctant super-powered colleagues however, Batson relishes the role of being a superhero, allowing for the lighter, comedic tone to the Shazam character.
While it's unlikely Shazam! will meet the high benchmark set by Aquaman, another strong showing for the DCEU will be a huge boost to Marvel's main rivals.
Saying that, Shazam's April release date could prove to be the film's downfall as Marvel's Avengers: Endgame is also scheduled for release that month.
Are you looking forward to seeing Billy Batson take on the role of Shazam in April?
