Southampton fans react on Twitter to club tweet about Yan Valery

The Saints posted quotes from the 19-year-old alongside the question "what next" for him, but some fans' responses were on the cynical side.

Yan Valery of Southampton has a shot during the Premier League match between Southampton FC and Cardiff City at St Mary's Stadium on February 9, 2019 in Southampton, United Kingdom.

Southampton may have slid into the Premier League relegation zone following their 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Cardiff City but there was some solace in the performance of one particular player.

Despite being just 19, right-back Yan Valery has impressed in Ralph Hasenhuttl's squad, to the point that the manager felt he could let Cedric Soares leave the club, which the Portuguese did by joining Inter Milan on loan.

The Saints were not at their best against the Bluebirds but Valery held his own well and could have even scored a stunning goal, were it not for the intervention of opposition goalkeeper Neil Etheridge, whose trailing leg kept the teenager's effort out.

On Monday, Southampton's official Twitter account posted quotes by Valery, who outlined what his personal goals are for the remainder of the season - namely making more starts for Hasenhuttl and improving as a player:

That said, considering Southampton have picked up just two points from their last three Premier League games, and against opposition they would have fancied their chances against - Crystal Palace, Burnley and Cardiff - there didn't seem to be that much room for optimism among the Saints fanbase.

Some fans took to Twitter and gave their replies, with responses to the club's "what next for Yan Valery" question along the lines of Championship football or even a move to Liverpool:
