Meire arrived at Sheffield Wednesday little more than a year ago.
Wednesday confirmed Meire's exit in a statement on Monday evening, little more than a year since the Belgian arrived following a spell at Charlton Athletic.
Her time at Charlton is fondly remembered by few, and was a cause for concern for many Owls fans at the time she was appointed.
But it is fair to say that Meire leaves with more supporters than she had to start with, although little is known about her true impact behind the scenes.
Meire leaving #swfc is a bit of a sour note. Clubs turning in the right direction with a class coach who knows how to connect with the fans and yet we get rid of the a CEO who while hated by a few did a sterling job and helped chansiri. Huge shame but onwards and upwards #uto— Lewis (@LewisR1999) 11 February 2019
I wonder what's gone on behind the scenes for Meire to leave? Got to say it's an odd one. Wasn't she the brains behind getting out of FFP trouble? How are we going to sort it now? #SWFC— 1867News (@1867News) 11 February 2019
Best of luck to Katrien Meire. Not sure what has gone on behind the scenes but at Wednesday she did nothing wrong and came across as a genuine person #swfc— Billy Seamus (@BillyFensterFen) 12 February 2019
And, in fact, several of a Sheffield Wednesday persuasion believe the wrong person has left their club.
After the horror reports from Charlton, we feared the worst but she seemed to do a decent job for us. Paixao is the one that needs to go https://t.co/TswfL6SPZY— A-P (@apnelhams3) 11 February 2019
It’s ok Miere has left the club what about the other one Paixao or whatever he’s called the so called advisor ? ♂️⚽️ #swfc— Andrew Battye (@battowl) 11 February 2019
Bit of a shame did no wrong at S6 as far as I can see. When’s Paxo man leaving the club then.
We need that snake out first— North Yorkshire Owls MBE (@NorthYorksOwls) 11 February 2019
Paixao is understood to be the closest of the advisers to Wednesday's chairman, Dejphon Chansiri, and the man responsible for a number of the Owls' recent signings, which have had mixed success and left the Championship side in a difficult position financially.
Chansiri has previously played down his links with the Portuguese agent, but was spotted alongside him, Steve Bruce and Stephen Clemence in Sheffield last month, ahead of the latter pair's appointments as manager and first-team coach, respectively.
What do you make of Meire's spell at Sheffield Wednesday?
