Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has praised Newcastle United attacking midfielder Miguel Almiron for his performance against Wolverhampton Wanderers, as quoted in The Chronicle.

Almiron, who joined Newcastle from Atlanta United in the January transfer window, came on as a substitute in the 72nd minute of the Premier League game between Wolves and the Magpies at the Molineux Stadium on Monday evening.

According to WhoScored, the 24-year-old attacking midfielder had a pass accuracy of 88.9%, and made one tackle, one interception, and played one key pass, as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Former Liverpool defender Carragher was impressed with the performance of Almiron, and so was former Newcastle striker Patrick Kluivert.

The Chronicle quotes Carragher as saying about Almiron: “I liked what I saw. His willingness and energy were good. It’s not easy to come on as a substitute when you’re winning the game. He looked lively, he looked sharp.”

The Chronicle quotes Kluivert as saying about Almiron: “He’s a lively boy. Very quick and I think he gave a good impression for the minutes he played.”

Relegation fight

The 1-1 draw with Wolves on Monday evening means that Newcastle are 16th in the Premier League table at the moment with 25 points from 26 matches, just a point above the relegation zone.

Rafael Benitez’s side remain in danger of going down to the Championship at the end of the season, but Almiron could be the player who creates chances for the strikers to score.
