The 22-year-old Saints ace was recalled from Burton and send out on loan to MK, and some Southampton fans think the club has done wrong.
The 22-year-old was playing his second match for the League Two side on Saturday, a home fixture against Swindon Town, and although were beaten 3-2 by the Robins, he impressed by claiming a goal as well as an assist.
With an hour gone at Stadium MK, the highly rated midfielder picked up a pass deep in the opposition half of his home debut for Paul Tisdale's side to curl a left-footed effort beyond Lawrence Vigouroux, levelling the scores at 1-1.
In the first half of the season, Hesketh enjoyed a fruitful spell at League One club Burton Albion, scoring three goals in 23 appearances (Transfermarkt) including the winner in the Carabao Cup quarter-final triumph over Middlesbrough.
His recall by Southampton and subsequent move to a club a division below where he was currently at proved controversial amongst some fans of both his parent club and those of Burton, who felt he would have developed more where he was.
After Saints posted footage of Hesketh's goal on Twitter, some of the Premier League club's fans couldn't help but feel the player is being wasted in the fourth tier:
It's a shame he hasn't had a loan opportunity at a higher level. Oh wait... ♀️— Lucy Highnett (@lucyhighnett) February 11, 2019
Or opportunities to prove himself ahead of that waste of time and money Elyonnousi. Hesketh biggest crime is to not have cost the club the earth in a panicked transfer window.— Ian Simpson (@gipsysimmo) February 11, 2019
It’s criminal that this lad is playing in league 2.— Richard Brereton (@RichardBrer) February 11, 2019
So you ripped him from a League One club where he was in form and sent him down to League Two all for the sake of a few quid, you lot are pathetic.— Rob (@robIacey) February 11, 2019
Given away another goal scorer.— scott lowson (@llowssco) February 11, 2019
