Claudio Yacob will have extra motivation to perform at his very best tonight as Nottingham Forest travel to West Bromwich Albion.
Martin O’Neill’s side need a win at The Hawthorns as they look to claw their way into the play-off places and Yacob could start in central midfield,
And the Argentine will be desperate to impress, given that he could come up against the side that released him seemingly without a second thought at the end of last season.
The tough-tackling midfielder was a key player for the Baggies between 2012 and 2018 but he was one of the first out of the door once their relegation from the Premier League was confirmed in May.
And, after a brief spell on the free-agent market, Yacob was belatedly offered a fresh start at Nottingham Forest.
Considering that West Brom have conceded far too many goals for a side with genuine promotion ambitions, the logic of selling a player renowned for providing a sheet of steel in front of the defence has been questioned – particularly by supporters.
Yacob has started 10 Championship games for Forest but none since O’Neill took over in mid-January. Though perhaps the 66-year-old could be tempted to throw him in against West Brom given that Yacob has a point to prove.
