Raul Albentosa flopped at Derby County but could reportedly return to the Championship with Bolton Wanderers.
Steve McClaren didn’t have a great record when it came to signing Spaniards for Derby County.
Omar Mascarell and Ivan Calero were far from a roaring success at Pride Park after all and the less said about Raul Albentosa the better.
It seemed that Derby had pulled of a real coup when they signed the 6ft 4ins centre-back from Eibar in the winter of 2015. Albentosa had impressed in La Liga after all with Derby’s head of football operations Chris Evans describing him as a ‘real talent’, as reported by Derbyshire Live.
But he kept that so-called talent under wraps during his time in the East Midlands.
Albentosa made just eight Championship appearances for The Rams and it was no surprise when he returned to Spain just a few months after arriving. Suggestions that he struggled with injuries after forgetting to bring his specialist insoles with him to England didn’t help, as claimed on RamsSpace.
So Derby fans have been quick to have their say with The Sun (12 February, page 63) reporting that Albentosa could make a shock return to English football with Bolton Wanderers, having left Deportivo la Coruna last month.

Had a bit of a bad time with us and blamed it on leaving his insoles in Spain
