Robbie Savage has urged Everton to give manager Marco Silva time and reminded the club's fans that they have 'spent far more' than Tottenham have in recent seasons.

The former midfielder also stated that the Goodison Park faithful are not the only ones who want to win trophies because 'so do Spurs', who are currently above them in the Premier League table.

The Toffees suffered another damaging defeat at the weekend, with Silva's former club Watford piling on more pressure on the under-fire manager, who was appointed in the summer.

BBC pundit Savage had a stern message for Everton and pointed towards north London as an example of being patient with your manager.

"Why [Spurs not a good comparison with Everton]? Savage told BBC 606. "Everton have spent far more than Spurs. That's the right comparison. Everton want to win trophies. So do Spurs.

"If you look at Spurs, they have spent less than Everton. The biggest difference is that Pochettino has improved the players that are there whilst spending less money.

"Since Moyes has left Everton have had Martinez, Koeman & Allardyce - now you have players from all those teams. He needs two, three, four windows like Pochettino has done at Spurs to try and bring his own identity on the football club. These managers need time."

Last season, Ronald Koeman was in the Goodison Park dugout before he was replaced by Sam Allardyce halfway through the season before his departure in the summer.

Silva, who had previously worked at Watford and Hull City, took charge of proceedings and has found life tough on Merseyside in these last few months.

In January, they were knocked out of the FA Cup at the hands of Championship side Millwall as they have picked up only three wins in all competitions since the turn of the year.

Nonetheless, at this moment in time, Silva's side are still sitting in the Premier League's top 10, but they are only one point ahead of the four teams below them, who all have a game in hand.
