The released Wolverhampton Wanderers striker, Joe Mason, will not be joining Charlton Athletic - leaving the door ajar to a Plymouth Argyle return.

Mason has been linked with both clubs since leaving Wolves ahead of last month's transfer deadline.

Speaking via Plymouth's official Twitter account last week, the Pilgrims manager, Derek Adams, confirmed a contract offer has been made to the 27-year-old.

But when asked about his side's pursuit, Adams' Charlton counterpart, Lee Bowyer told London News Online: "He [Mason] is the one that we were looking to bring in.

Plymouth-born Mason began his career at Home Park, where he scored 13 goals in 54 games before leaving for Cardiff City in 2011.
