Tyler Denton left Championship title-chasers Leeds United to join League One hopefuls Peterborough during the summer transfer window.
Considering that Tyler Denton has struggled for game-time since joining Peterborough on loan from Leeds United last summer, the last thing he needed was a needless and naïve red-card in Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Doncaster Rovers.
Making only his seventh start of the season and his first in over a month, Denton was booked in the first half for time-wasting.
He was walking on a tightrope from then on but that did not stop him from hauling back another Leeds loanee, Rovers forward Mallik Wilks, with just seconds until the referee blew the whistle for half time. A second yellow was inevitable.
Peterborough were a goal up at the time so it is no wonder the fans have singled Denton out for criticism after slumping to a 3-1 defeat that damages their hopes of qualifying for the end of season play-offs.
My thoughts on today’s game vs Donny. Bizarre refereeing throughout, from the strange yellow for time wasting in the 20th min to the lack of a red for a clear head movement from a Donny player on Toney. Stupid second yellow for Denton when already booked. #pufc 1/2

Denton was taking over 45 seconds to take throw ins. He had already been warned about time wasting. Stupid to time waste that early in the game if you ask me.

I don’t care how harsh or not the first yellow is for Denton, he is a massive idiot for the second. No sympathy from me #PUFC

Denton first yellow was a joke! You are not time wasting 30 minutes into the game! Second was inexcusable when you’re on a yellow, silly! #pufc

Oh,… Leave him in Donny, and he can walk back to Leeds!

What a silly boy, Wilks beat him, Denton tripped him from behind. Blatant yellow. Regret that first one now for time-wasting #pufc

Denton is shocking #pufc

It remains to be seen what the future holds for 23-year-old Denton once his spell at London Road comes to an end.
The left-back joined the Leeds academy all the way back in 2003 but he has made just three appearances for the South Yorkshire giants so far and could now be behind Barry Douglas, Tom Pearce and Leif Davis in the pecking order.
