It: Chapter Two has already earned a wonderful new accompaniment.
Andy Muschietti’s It: Chapter Two is one of the most anticipated films of 2019, set to follow-up on the events of the hit 2017 horror remake. The first film received instant recognition and is widely regarded as one of the very best Stephen King adaptations. Perhaps the greatest highlight of Muschietti’s It was the young cast, who did such a terrific job in nurturing our emotional attachment to the narrative. They were all so believable and honest; we could all recognise a little of our past selves in at least one of the characters.
This is where It: Chapter Two will fall into difficulties. Arguably the first film failed to scare but more than made up for it with the heart which its young leads radiated. The sequel will chronicle the “Losers’ Club” as adults, so the innocence and charm need to be replaced with something far more sinister. We need to believe that the group - as adults - are scared of this mysterious force, and to do that we need to be scared ourselves.
Hopefully, the film meets expectations when it releases September 6, 2019. Fortunately, its release will be even more special with the release of an exciting new book on September 10. According to Bloody Disgusting, You’ll Float Too: The World of IT will act as an illustrative and insightful companion to both It and It: Chapter Two. This authorised book courtesy of Alyse Wax will be essential for anyone who finds themselves taken with the franchise. The hardback book is now available to pre-order.
