Steven Bergwijn has gone from a sprightly young winger to one of the most lethal attackers anywhere in Dutch football over the last 12 months. So no wonder so many teams want to sign him.

According to the Sun, a number of Premier League clubs are keeping tabs on the quick-footed Dutch international, including Tottenham and West Ham United. He is understood to be valued by PSV Eindhoven at £25 million.

Now, considering that Eredivisie imports have a, let’s say, ‘mixed, record in English football, you could understand why fans of Spurs or the Hammers were reserving judgement on Bergwijn for now.

But the fact that he has just equalled a six-year-old record will only serve to enhance his burgeoning reputation. The 21-year-old has now scored either a goal or produced an assist in his last nine consecutive league games for PSV – becoming the first player to achieve the feat since Wilfried Bony in 2013.

He equalled the record in the 5-0 weekend demolition of Fortuna Sittard, setting up debutant Cody Gakpo to slam home a stunning long-range strike.

Unfortunately for Bergwijn, his chances of breaking the record slipped away as he limped off in the second half.
