The veteran actor leads three generations of the iconic detective
The 2019 film marks the third reboot of the classic series, following John Singleton's 2000 release – also starring Jackson.
This latest incarnation sees Jackson bring together three generations of the Shaft team. Jackson reprises his role as John Shaft II bringing along his son, John Shaft III (played by Jessie Usher) while Richard Roundtree returns as the original 1971 Shaft.
Samuel L. Jackson attends the 'Glass' NY Premiere at SVA Theater on January 15, 2019 in New York City.
However, Jackson isn't Roundtree's son – he's actually his nephew. The youngest Shaft also comes with a bunch of very modern, very cool cybersecurity knowledge that allows the Shaft family to investigate the mysterious death of a friend in the Harlem underworld.
There's already lots of action and great one-liners in this first-look teaser, including Shaft junior's brilliant quip: "Ignore him, he thinks he's the black James Bond."
"If that dude was real, he'd think he was me," Jackson replies. Watch it all unfold below:
The cast also boasts the likes of Regina Hall (Girl's Trip), Alexandra Shipp (X-Men: Apocalypse), and even Wu-Tang Clan’s Method Man. It’s set for release in America on 14 June – while the UK will be able to watch it on Netflix on the same date.
