Bresica’s Serie B president Massimo Cellino has confirmed that Premier League leaders Liverpool have asked about the ‘new Andrea Pirlo’.

Liverpool could be forced to pay a huge fee if they want to sign Sandro Tonali in the summer, as reported by Calciomercato.

A hugely gifted 18-year-old midfielder who plays in Serie B for Brescia, Tonali has been likened to the legendary Andrea Pirlo for his outstanding passing range and impressive vision in the centre of the park.

He was even called up for the Italy national squad in November with Roberto Mancini seemingly a big fan of the teenager. And it seems that Tonali has plenty of admirers at Anfield too.

Speaking to Corriere dello Sport in January, Brescia’s outspoken president Massimo Cellino admitted that Liverpool had made an enquiry.

“Roma have made a request for Tonali, I’ve had many meetings with (chief executive Mauro) Baldissoni but I want to retain the player for long time,” said the outspoken president.

“He’s just 18 and I’ve been contacted by Liverpool too.”

If Liverpool really want Tonali, however, they must be prepared to break the bank. According to Calciomercato, Brescia were demanding £30 million in January but Cellino is expected to raise his price tag to £45 million should the Little Swallows earn promotion this season.

Given that Brescia are top of the Serie B table, there is a good chance of that happening.

But will Liverpool really make an 18-year-old their fourth most expensive signing of all time?
