The former Black Cats ace is reportedly not even in the Bordeaux squad to face Marseille. Here is how some Sunderland fans reacted.
Sunderland enjoyed a rather fruitful January transfer window, with the likes of Will Grigg, Grant Leadbitter, Lewis Morgan and Jimmy Dunne all arriving at the Stadium of Light to bolster the Black Cats' hopes of promotion from League One.
On the flip side, the transfer saga surrounding Josh Maja dragged on for a while, the 20-year-old forward turning down a new contract at the club before joining Bordeaux on on a four-and-a-half-year deal, according to the French club's website.
Maja, who came through the ranks at the Wearside outfit, joined the Ligue 1 side for an undisclosed fee, but according to Sky Sports News, the sum involved could rise up to £3.5million.
The former Crystal Palace and Fulham academy man scored 16 goals in 30 appearances for Sunderland in 2018-19, helping Jack Ross' side to third in the table following their relegation last term, but his departure left a bitter taste in the mouth of many fans.
According to The Chronicle, Maja has not even made the matchday squad for Bordeaux’s game against Marseille on Tuesday evening, and here is how some Black Cats fans responded to the update on Twitter:
