Newcastle United loanee Jacob Murphy did not enjoy the best West Bromwich Albion debut.
After such a difficult time at Newcastle, Jacob Murphy may well be feeling the pressure to make sure that he makes the most of his loan spell with West Brom following his deadline day switch to The Hawthorns.
The Baggies are right in the promotion race in the Championship, so Murphy potentially has a fantastic opportunity to prove a point to Rafa Benitez who handed the 23-year-old just three Premier League starts this term.
But unfortunately for Murphy, he appears to have a lot more work to do after his debut for the Baggies was slammed by plenty of West Brom fans on social media.
Darren Moore’s side were beaten 3-2 at home by Middlesbrough on Saturday. And it has not escaped the attention of some of the Baggies fans on Twitter that they were 2-1 ahead when Moore decided to introduce Murphy with 16 minutes remaining.
Of course, he cannot take all of the blame for the loss. But plenty of supporters have suggested that they were incredibly underwhelmed by his cameo.
One fan suggested that his performance was one of the worst substitute displays they have seen, while another claimed that the youngster did not look interested when he was introduced.
Here is what some of the Baggies fans made of the Newcastle loanee’s debut…
Murphy needs game time. Looked rusty when he come on. Still dont get why at 2 2 we didnt bring the speed demon on from Swansea. Odd one once again. #WBA— DOOD ⚪️ (@RudeDoody) February 2, 2019
No judgement at all but my god Murphy had an absolute mare, didn’t do a single thing right #wba— SemperTeFallant (@MattRowley83) February 2, 2019
I thought that , hardly put heself about , gave up easily on one or two balls and he’s movement was static— Jason Wheeler (@lebouf1976) February 3, 2019
Two contenders for worst substitute performance of all time from Chris Brunt and Jacob Murphy today— Kieran (@WBAKizz) February 2, 2019
Bizarre game, fell apart once Robson-Kanu removed, Murphy didn’t look interested which was worrying for a debut #wba— ? (@Paphos_Stavros) February 2, 2019
Game changed when we took HRK off. I don’t like him, think he’s garbage, but we were in the ascendancy and winning every ball up until we took HRK off. Conceded within a minute of Murphy coming on and never looked in control again. Isn’t always his fault tbh.— Matt (@MutleyyWBA) February 2, 2019
