Scott Brown marked his new Celtic contract with a brilliant display on Sunday.

Brendan Rodgers has told Celtic’s YouTube channel that Scott Brown was ‘absolutely brilliant’ in Sunday’s 2-0 win at St Johnstone.
Brown celebrated his new two-year Celtic contract with an excellent, no-nonsense midfield display as the Hoops restored their six-point lead over Rangers in the Scottish Premiership title race.
James Forrest and Timothy Weah scored the goals, but the 33-year-old Bhoys captain reminded everybody of his importance yet again.
Asked about his performance on Celtic’s YouTube channel, Rodgers gasped and said: “He was fearless today really. He was absolutely brilliant. He’s up to speed now fitness wise and you can see his influence in the middle of the pitch, running, tackling, pressing, but also his quality on the ball.
“He’s a very important player for us. Days like today when you’re away from home and it’s bitterly cold, he always produces.”
Brown, who turns 34 in June, is continuously being written off at Celtic, but Sunday’s display only served to illustrate that there’s plenty of life in the old dog yet.
His achievements of last term, winning every individual end-of-season award on offer, should be enough to make his critics err on the side of caution before deciding he is finished, but it’s not.
For the first time in a long time, Celtic are in a title race this season and having Brown – who turned down a move to Australia and the Middle East [The Scotsman] – could be a huge factor in deciding where the title ends up, be it Parkhead or Ibrox.
He cost the Glasgow club £4.4 million in 2007, according to The Guardian.
