Within hours of starting work at Hillsborough, Bruce signed off deals for the versatile defender, Dominic Iorfa, who arrived permanently from Wolves, the winger, Rolando Aarons, and the left-back, Achraf Lazaar, who will each spend the rest of the season on loan from Newcastle.
Speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield after Wednesday's 1-0 win at Ipswich Town on Saturday, the 58-year-old said: "Well I have to thank Newcastle. They were extremely generous.
"Big Dominic Iorfa I've known for a long, long time. A couple of years ago I thought he was going to be a world-beater, but Wolves haven't played him. He's young and he's athletic, and quick, so he'll be a really good addition to the team and I'm delighted to have him."
Only Aarons, who appeared as a late substitute, was even included in Sheffield Wednesday's 18 at Portman Road, however.
And Bruce warned the trio will have to fight for their places at Hillsborough.
"I've said to all of them, the problem that we've got [is that] I've left seven players behind today - and still travelled with 20," he added.
"There is a big squad we've got, which needs to be trimmed. I'm sure it's impossible to keep 27 happy. So that'll be the first job and people want to play, but I've given them all the assurance that they'll get their chance.
"Now some have proved it today - the back four and my goalkeeper were immaculate. So long may that continue."
Sheffield Wednesday were dominant against the Championship's bottom club, but spurned several chances to score before Lucas Joao's 90th-minute winner.
Iorfa, Aarons or Lazaar - who will prove to be Wednesday's best January signing?
