Kingdom Hearts 3 is a great game and a massive improvement over its predecessors in many areas. The Disney worlds are large and gorgeous, the combat is varied and pretty, and there’s Toy Story instead of The Little Mermaid. However, unlike its predecessors, Square Enix bizarrely seems to have ignored Final Fantasy characters in what is supposed to still be a Final Fantasy and Disney crossover. So, where are they?
Spoilers beyond this point:
Unfortunately, according to Shacknews and Gear Nuke, there are no Final Fantasy characters in Kingdom Hearts 3 beside the pesky Moogles. So, there’s no Yuffie, Leon, Aerith, or Cloud, and there’s no secret boss fight with an OP Sephiroth famous for making gamers around the world cry and break their controllers. This is disappointing to say the least.
It makes little to no sense why there aren’t any Final Fantasy characters in Kingdom Hearts 3. There’s still the Olympus Coliseum where Cloud and Sephiroth have been frequent combatants, and the likes of Leon, Cid, Yuffie, Aerith, Auron, the Gullwings, and Tifa were relatively important to Sora, Donald, and Goofy in previous entries. There’s that, along with the fact a lot of the Final Fantasy characters' stories now remain incomplete.
While it’s massively disappointing that Final Fantasy characters have – for whatever reason – been ignored in Kingdom Hearts 3, the darkest chapter in Sora’s saga still provides enough Disney magic to help ease the pain.
