Leeds United’s deal for Daniel James has fallen through.

Leeds United have missed out on signing Swansea City winger Daniel James – and Oliver McBurnie has taken to Twitter to celebrate.

The Whites had made James their top target in recent weeks, but have found it difficult to strike a deal with Swansea.

After all, the Swans weren’t all that keen to lose the 21-year-old. He may be out of contract in 18 months, but he has really flourished under Graham Potter this season.

Eventually though, Leeds appeared to have broken the Swans down. As reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, James underwent a medical with Leeds on deadline day ahead of sealing his move.

A loan deal with a view to a permanent move has been agreed, and James was in place to sign for Leeds eight hours before the deadline…but then it all went wrong.

Despite agreeing a deal, Swansea wouldn’t sign the deal off, leaving James to sit at Elland Road as the deadline passed, meaning the winger now returns to the Liberty Stadium, as also reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

He is unlikely to be impressed at being messed around like this by his own club, but one man who is happy is Swans striker Oliver McBurnie.

Leeds-born McBurnie took to Twitter to post a celebratory photo of himself with James, which was deleted eventually, but spotted by many fans and even Wales Online too, with the striker clearly delighted to have his teammate staying in South Wales.
