Wolverhampton Wanderers had reportedly hoped to sign Sardar Azmoun on an initial loan deal.

According to a report from the Daily Mail’s live transfer blog (31/1; 11:36), Sardar Azmoun’s hopes of moving to Wolves appear to be over after talks over a potential deal collapsed.

The Daily Mail reported that Azmoun was discussing an initial loan move to Molineux that would cost the Premier League side £1.75 million. However, talks over a potential permanent deal led to the plug being pulled.

According to the Daily Mail (31/1; 11:36), Rubin Kazan wanted Wolves to agree to sign Azmoun on a permanent basis for £11.4 million in the summer. However, Nuno Espirito Santo’s men are only interested in agreeing an option to buy at this stage.

It will be interesting to see whether the two clubs will get back round the negotiating table before the January transfer window closes. He is a talented forward, and Kazan have already shown some willingness to let him leave.

There is clearly some distance between the two clubs. But given how long is left in the window, it is clearly not out of the question for the two sides to look to reach a compromise to get something across the line.

But perhaps Wolves will now be looking to turn their attention elsewhere in the hope of bolstering their striker ranks.
