The indictment of Trump's former political adviser, Roger Stone, made headlines last week.
Special Counsel Robert Mueller has indicted Stone on one count of obstruction, five counts of false statements, and one count of witness tampering. Stone has been accused of communicating with Wikileaks founder Julian Assange and 'Organization 1', widely believed to be Wikileaks itself.
Stone has repeatedly denied these allegations, and any involvement or knowledge of the alleged Russians attack on the Democratic National Convention.
But who is Roger Stone ?
Stone has been a high profile player for the Republican Party since the 1970s, when, at 19, he worked in President Richard Nixon's 1972 re-election campaign. Following Nixon's resignation, Stone worked for Senator Bob Dole, but was later left after columnist Jack Anderson referred to him as a 'dirty trickster.' But Stone's love of the former president never faded, and he actually has Nixon's face tattooed to his back.
After working on Ronald Reagan's election campaign in 1980, Stone went into business with Paul Manafort and Charlie Black to create a political lobbying firm called Black Manafort & Stone. This organisation was instrumental during Reagan's 1984 re-election campaign.
Stone has known Trump since 1979. The two met whilst sitting on Reagan's finance committee. When his lobbying firm dissolved in the early 90s, Stone worked for Trump as a lobbyist for his casino business.
During the 90s Stone worked for Bob Dole's 1996 presidential campaign and later returned to the political arena and played a part in George W. Bush's successful 2000 Presidential Election campaign.
Stone has also written many books on U.S presidents. In The Man Who Killed Kennedy: The Case Against LBJ, Stone argues Lyndon Johnson was behind a conspiracy to kill John F. Kennedy. He dedicated a whole book to Nixon's life called Nixon's Rise: The Rise, Fall and Untold Truth about the President, Watergate and the Pardon. His book The Clintons' War on Women was described by Politico as 'explosive'. Jeb Bush and the Bush Crime Family focuses upon former Florida governor Jeb Bush and his family. A more recent book, The Making of the President 2016: How Donald Trump Orchestrated a Revolution, discusses the Trump's campaign during the 2016 election.
