West Brom are reportedly set to complete the signing of Newcastle winger Murphy.
The Guardian have claimed in their live transfer blog (Thursday, 9;42pm) that West Bromwich Albion are set to complete a loan move for Newcastle United winger Jacob Murphy – and the payment of wages benefits The Toon.
Murphy, 23, is struggling for game time at St. James’ Park with the likes of Matt Ritchie, Kenedy, Christian Atsu and Ayoze Perez above the former Norwich City man in the pecking order.
Indeed, the England Under-21 international has clocked up just 301 minutes of Premier League football this season despite being signed by Newcastle in the summer of 2017 for a fee believed to be in the region of £12million.
West Brom have agreed to sign Murphy on loan until the end of the season and an announcement is expected imminently. The latest update states that Newcastle have struck a deal favourable for their coffers.
It is believed that Championship outfit West Brom are to pay Murphy’s entire wages for the second half of the 2018-19 campaign, which Spotrac claims is worth £25,000-a-week.
Murphy has a strong record in the Championship, scoring 10 goals and creating nine more in 46 appearances. He replaces the losses of Oliver Burke to Celtic, Bakary Sako to Crystal Palace and Harvey Barnes to Leicester City.
