Four Championship clubs, Forest, Wednesday, Bolton Wanderers and Wigan Athletic, are being linked with ex-Hibernian defender Ambrose.

Nottingham Forest are one of four Championship clubs keen to sign the free agent centre-back Efe Ambrose, according to the Daily Record (live blog, 10.54am).

The Nigerian international finds himself without a club after invoking a clause in his contract that allowed him to leave Hibernian earlier in the January transfer window.

And it is understood that a number of sides from below the border are keen to offer Ambrose a fresh start.

It is no secret that Nottingham Forest are keen on a new centre-back despite landing Leicester City’s Yohan Benalouane recently and the former Celtic player is the latest name to have emerged on their radar on a busy deadline-day.

The Daily Record claims that Sheffield Wednesday are also interested in Ambrose. He was a big hit at Hibs, helping the Edinburgh side earn promotion from the Scottish Championship and establish themselves in the top flight.

Cash-strapped Bolton Wanderers and relegation threatened Wigan Athletic are interested too in a defender who could be a fine addition on the cheap.

30-year-old Ambrose has won 51 caps for his country and lifted the Scottish Premiership trophy four times with Celtic.
