Gallagher has played one minute of Premier League football for the Saints this season, with Swansea City reportedly keen.

Swansea City are interested in signing the coveted Southampton striker Sam Gallagher today, according to the Sun (31 January, page 58).

The 23-year-old target man has barely featured for the Saints this season, playing just one minute of Premier League football despite a lack of natural goal-scorers in Ralph Hasenhuttl’s squad.

But Gallagher has a decent record in the Championship, having spent time on loan in the second tier at Blackburn Rovers and Birmingham City in the last two seasons.

As a result, there is no shortage of Championship interest. The Sun claims that Swansea see the 6ft 4ins centre-forward as a replacement for the outgoing Wilfried Bony as manager Graham Potter looks to take the pressure off leading goal-scorer Oli McBurnie.

Nottingham Forest are also interested, the Sun add, with Martin O’Neill hoping to sign Gallagher on loan for the rest of the season.

HITC sources told us on Wednesday, however, that Southampton were expected to reject all offers as they want to keep the former Plymouth youngster at St Mary’s for the rest of the season.

They have already sold Manolo Gabbiadini to Sampdoria while Charlie Austin could also leave on deadline day.
