Aston Villa have told James Bree that he can leave on transfer deadline day, with Ipswich Town willing to offer the defender a fresh start according to the Sun (live blog, 10.13am).

Villa snapped up the right-back two years ago in a £3 million deal from Barnsley, according to the Birmingham Mail, and Bree was tipped for big things in the Midlands.

He had produced a number of impressive Championship displays for The Tykes despite his tender years, having become Barnsley’s second youngest debutant ever at the age of just 16.

But, with Alan Hutton, Axel Tuanzebe and Ahmed Elmohamady ahead of him in the pecking order, Bree has struggled for game time at Villa Park and has made just eight Championship appearances this season.

The Sun reports that Villa boss Dean Smith is now prepared to let the Wakefield-born 21-year-old leave with Championship bottom-club Ipswich interested.

It is understood that the Tractor Boys are desperate to sign a new right-back today and have also entered talks to sign Ivo Pinto from bitter East Anglia rivals Norwich City, the Sun (9.42am) adds.
