Batman has been brought to us by the DCEU courtesy of Ben Affleck for a few years now. He first appeared in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice; the film was incredibly divisive, but many noted that it didn't utilise Affleck's Batman to a satisfying extent. There was an abundance of fans who wanted to see more, and who felt that Justice League had failed to deliver.
The only hope to provide an immersive outing with Affleck's Batman was Matt Reeves' planned solo outing. Unfortunately, plans have shifted.
The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Affleck would cease to continue playing Batman. Comic book devotees are speculating as to who may step up to take the role, generating an exciting discussion. The project has been shrouded in mystery for some time now, but it looks like 2019 is the year it's set to fall into place.
In conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Reeves revealed that Batman would be in "detective mode" and that audiences can expect a "noir Batman tale". This confirms the suspicions of a grittier, alternative perspective on the character's operations.
