According to a report in the Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa want to sign Moritz Bauer from Stoke City.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are chasing the full-back, but Villa are also keen on him.

Bauer could be made available by Stoke, and Villa are now keen to take their chance to snap him up.

Stoke paid £5 million for Bauer just a year ago (Daily Mail), but he could be set for a swift exit from the Potteries.

Dean Smith has made no secret of his desire to bring in new additions before the end of the month.

Smith thinks Villa have a weakness at the back, and has consistently stated that the squad is too top heavy.

Villa could now bring in two defenders before the end of the month, according to the latest transfer report in the Birmingham Mail, and both may be full-backs.

If Villa do bring in Bauer, who is a right-back, he could take Alan Hutton’s place in Smith’s side’s first-team.
