It's only gone and done it! That's right, James Wan's Aquaman is officially the most financially successful film that DC has ever put out. It has triumphed over competition from Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises, which formerly held the position.
It has reached a whopping $1.09 billion USD at the worldwide box-office; with more specific statistics also available. Before the film's release, many fans were considering this as the studios' last hope to win over casual audiences once again. It certainly seems to have worked.
Jason Momoa has played such a huge role in the film's success, joining the likes of Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman to raise interest in DC output for future years. Fans are already incredibly excited at the prospect of sequel opportunities, and it's likely Momoa's Aquaman will be back for yet another solo-outing. The film wasn't a total critical success, but audiences have flocked to see it, finding great appeal in its balance between fantasy, superhero mythology and comedy.
