John Fleck has impressed for the Blades in the Championship, but few expected him to move to the Premier League with West Ham United this month.

West Ham United have made a second bid to sign Sheffield United midfielder John Fleck, according to the Sun (29 January, page 52).
Rumours linking the Blades midfielder with a move to the London Stadium emerged on Monday and raised plenty of eyebrows, given that Fleck has hardly been a gossip column regular in recent months despite his impressive form for the Championship promotion hopefuls.
The Sun reports that West Ham initially offered £4 million for Fleck but Sheffield United turned the bid down as they are determined to keep one of their most important players at Bramall Lane.
But West Ham have not given up just yet. And, interestingly, the report adds that Chris Wilder’s Blades could be willing to let Fleck grab his chance in the Premier League if they can find a replacement before this week’s transfer deadline.

27-year-old Fleck, who played for Rangers and Coventry before joining Sheffield United in 2016, has been a major part of the club’s recent success as they cruised to the League One title before establishing themselves as one of the Championship’s most feared sides.
And, should he make the shock switch to West Ham, he’d give Manuel Pellegrini some much needed midfield depth with Jack Wilshere and Carlos Sanchez on the sidelines with long-term injury problems.
