Watford's Will Hughes makes honest admission about Newcastle United

Newcastle United crashed out of the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon.

Watford midfielder Will Hughes has told the Daily Mail that he wasn't sure Newcastle United had the same desire as the Hornets on Saturday afternoon.

Watford travelled up to St James' Park on Saturday afternoon for a fourth round FA Cup tie, and were looking for revenge having lost there in the Premier League back in November.

The Hornets did just that, claiming a 2-0 win as Andre Gray and Isaac Success struck to give Watford a win, and a passage into the fifth round of the competition.

Newcastle offered up little threat or fight, failing to build on their recent Premier League win over Cardiff at St James' Park.

Rafael Benitez is clearly frustrated at a lack of signings this month, whilst fans echo those sentiments whilst continuing to voice their anger at owner Mike Ashley.

Those two factors, as well as a rotated Newcastle side, appeared to result in a tepid display from the Magpies, with Watford taking full advantage.

Now, Watford midfielder Hughes has offered an honest admission about Newcastle's performance, suggesting that Watford simply showed more desire to win the game, admitting that he doesn't know what Newcastle's mentality was heading into the game, but they simply didn't want the win quite as much as Watford did.

“I think we showed that bit more desire,” said Hughes. “I don't know about their mentality and how they went about it, but with the greatest respect, I think our desire and quality counted from the outset,” he added.
