Akin Famewo in action for Luton Town

Norwich City are poised to sign highly-rated Luton Town defender Akin Famewo, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Famewo is currently on a season-long loan deal at Grimsby Town, but Luton are set to cut short the loan deal after accepting an offer from Norwich for the centre-back.

The powerful central-defender came through the ranks at Luton and is highly-regarded at Kenilworth Road.

The 20-year-old made his first-team debut for Luton at the age of 17 in August 2016 and he made six appearances that season.

Famewo made eight appearances in all competitions last season as Luton won promotion from League Two.

Luton decided to send him on loan to Grimsby so that he could continue his development with regular first-team football and Famewo has caught the eye at Blundell Park.

Norwich have held a long-term interest in Famewo and they have decided to firm up their interest following his impressive loan spell at Grimsby.

Championship hopefuls Norwich see Famewo as one for the future and he is unlikely to go straight into Daniel Farke’s promotion-chasing side.
