Sterry is way down the pecking order at Newcastle under Rafa Benitez.

Jamie Sterry has posted on Twitter after it was confirmed that the Newcastle United defender had returned to League Two side Crewe Alexandra on loan until the end of the season.

Newcastle confirmed the news on their official website, which sees the 23-year-old return to Gresty Road after spending the second half of last season on loan with David Artell’s side.

The right-back has managed just three appearances for Newcastle this season, featuring in both FA Cup ties against Blackburn Rovers as well as the 3-1 loss to Nottingham Forest.

Despite having already played in League One and making the Toon bench for their last two Premier League games, Sterry has opted to return to the fourth tier of English football with Crewe and posted on Twitter after a move was confirmed.

Sterry remains way down the pecking order at St. James’ Park, with Rafa Benitez preferring the likes of DeAndre Yedlin and Javier Manquillo on the right side of the defence.

It remains to be seen whether Sterry’s long-term future remains at Newcastle, with his current £2,000-a-week contract (Spotrac) expiring at the end of the 2019-20 campaign.
