Is Ewan Henderson the next big thing to come through at Celtic?

Brendan Rodgers has told Herald Scotland that he has been left ‘so impressed’ by Celtic youngster Ewan Henderson, who he hinted could leave on loan.

The 18-year-old midfielder made his senior debut for Celtic in the 4-0 drubbing of St Mirren in midweek, earning a 20-minute cameo after coming on for Ryan Christie.

Henderson, the younger brother of former Hoops man Liam, seems to be the next big thing coming out of Lennoxtown.

Problem is, Rodgers has an abundance of similar players at his disposal and the teenager could really struggle for first-team minutes from now until the end of the season.

And the Northern Irish manager has hinted to Herald Scotland that he might just offload Henderson, saying he may need to ‘go out of here’.

“If you look at Ewan Henderson coming into the game the other night, I have been so impressed with him as a player. He is working on his intensity in the game in terms of his pressing.

“This is something you have always got to get into young players. They have to understand it is not just about looking good, you have to be aggressive.

“He is a huge talent but it is maturation and sometimes that may mean going out of here. But the talent is there absolutely.”

It’s certainly high praise from Rodgers and it’ll be interesting to see what happens with the Celtic youngster.

If it’s a choice between senior football in the Championship or another five months with the Bhoys’ reserves then it’s a no-brainer. A short-term loan in the second tier might do him the world of good and maybe, just maybe, he returns to Lennoxtown a player determined to impress Rodgers this summer.
