Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks has been offered plenty of first-team chances by Mauricio Pochettino of late.

Joe Cole has told Sky Sports, during their live coverage of Tottenham Hotspur’s match with Chelsea, that Harry Winks is very highly rated in the England set-up.

Cole claims that he is very often in contact with England’s coaches, and they only have positive words to say about the Tottenham midfielder, whose reputation is growing by the game.

Winks scored his first Premier League goal of the season for Spurs at the weekend, and put in a good performance in the League Cup against Chelsea yesterday.

And Cole said: “He is very well thought of in the England set up. I speak to a lot of the coaches who work with him.

“He’s one of those players who is like a Carrick, a players’ player. You appreciate him and the fans might think what he’s doing is simple, but he always receives it away from the player and his passes are crisp. I think he’s going to go on and have a great career.”

Despite Winks’ positive display for Tottenham yesterday they still fell to defeat against Chelsea.

Tottenham were beaten 2-1 on the night at Stamford Bridge and ultimately exited the League Cup on penalties.

It means that Tottenham’s wait for a trophy continues, much to the frustrations of supporters of the Lilywhites.

Winks could be required to start again for Spurs at the weekend, when they take on Crystal Palace in the FA Cup.
