The 32-year-old made 307 appearances in nine-and-a-half years at Wolves, scoring 44 goals and registering 17 assists, according to Transfermarkt, before leaving for Reading in 2017.
Earlier this year, Edwards rejoined the Shrews, the club where he began his professional career, but has made just one appearances for them so far, picking up a minor groin injury during the 3-0 defeat at Charlton Athletic.
Shrewsbury confirmed on Thursday that Edwards has ruled himself out of the fixture, opting to focus on returning to full fitness for the upcoming league games rather than pushing for a place in the squad against his former club, and describing it as a "disappointing" but necessary decision.
