Former Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder David Edwards has ruled himself out of this weekend's FA Cup fourth-round tie between Shrewsbury Town and his former club at the New Meadow.

The 32-year-old made 307 appearances in nine-and-a-half years at Wolves, scoring 44 goals and registering 17 assists, according to Transfermarkt, before leaving for Reading in 2017.

Earlier this year, Edwards rejoined the Shrews, the club where he began his professional career, but has made just one appearances for them so far, picking up a minor groin injury during the 3-0 defeat at Charlton Athletic.

Shrewsbury confirmed on Thursday that Edwards has ruled himself out of the fixture, opting to focus on returning to full fitness for the upcoming league games rather than pushing for a place in the squad against his former club, and describing it as a "disappointing" but necessary decision.

Here is how some Wolves fans reacted on Twitter to the news that their former player would not be involved at the weekend:

Wolves reached the fourth round of the FA Cup after a 2-1 win over Liverpool, while Shrewsbury have played five games in three rounds - two replays - en route to the tie against the Premier League side.
